Abortion is Immoral Essay - 1518 Words

For centuries society has placed their own opinions on the topic of abortion. Some claim to be Pro Choice, and believe that the decision should lie only in the hands of the woman carrying the child. Others are Pro Life, and say that abortion is unethical and is considered as a form of homicide. All depending on one’s human dignity, the argument differs. Human dignity is the sense of self-worth and self-respect that one inhabits. With this being said, the way one feels about themselves as a human-being, as well as other human-beings, has an effect on one’s outlook on abortion. Although there is a current controversy regarding the topic of abortion, whether the argument be pro-life or pro-choice, the opinions and facts defending the pro-life†¦show more content†¦Unfortunately, many women had to suffer before methods of safety and efficiency were developed and used. Abortion eventually became illegal in all 50 states in 1899, which was subject to change several de cades later. A popular Supreme Court ruling during a case known as Roe V. Wade is what mainly caused this ratification. The case involved a woman, pregnant at the time, who was fighting for her right to an abortion. She had believed that the laws in the state of Texas, where she had lived and sought out an abortion, were unconstitutional. She believed that her right to an abortion was crucial as a woman, as did the Supreme Court when they ruled her case just in 1973. In this ruling, however, they divided the pregnancy into three sections, known as trimesters. They ruled that in the first trimester abortion is always legal. However, in the second trimester it is only legal when the mother’s life is in danger, and in the third it ruled that abortion is illegal unless it is the only answer to saving the mother’s life (Durrett 16). Since the very beginning, people have been forming their own opinion on the subject of abortion, and deciding which side of the argument stands as humanly dignified to them.
